Payroll Giving

Give more, pay less – and help more badgers!

What is payroll giving?

Payroll Giving is a system where employers allow employees to donate to a charity from their salary prior to tax being deducted.

It's a brilliant way to support Badger Trust as each £1 you donate will only cost you 80p (if you pay a higher rate of tax the savings are even bigger).

After completing a simple form, the donation is taken directly from your salary via your employer’s Payroll or HR department. As a payroll donor, you are in complete control of your donations and can change the frequency and amount whenever you need to.

How it works

Your selected donation amount is deducted from your gross pay before tax, and the tax relief means that it costs you less to give.

The amount is calculated depending on your tax bracket.

For example, if you decide to donate £10 a month and are in the 20% tax bracket this will cost you just £8. If you are in the 40% tax bracket the cost to you is £6. Your chosen charity will receive your entire gift amount of £10.
You can find out more about this tax-effective way of giving on the HMRC website.

Information for employees

In order to donate via Payroll Giving your employer needs to be registered for the scheme.

Check with your HR or Payroll department who will provide you with a short form to complete if they are registered. You choose which charity to support (hopefully Badger Trust!)  and how much you’d like to give and your HR or Payroll department do the rest.

If your company is not yet registered for payroll giving, why not suggest it? It’s easy and free to set up.

If you do decide to give to us via your workplace please let us know. We would love to keep you updated about the difference your kind donation is making for the badgers.

Information for employers

Payroll Giving is one of the easiest and most effective ways to raise money for charity.

It’s also a fantastic way to boost staff morale and motivation and enhances your company’s charitable giving with little effort or cost to you.

You can register your company with the scheme through an HMRC-approved Payroll Giving Agency such as  Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) or Charitable Giving.
