Getting started

Your paw by paw guide to get your fundraiser off to a flying start.

Here’s a few things you need to think about...

  • What type of fundraising event do you want to do? You'll find lots of ideas in the Badger Trust fundraising pack to inspire you!

    • If you’re sporty you could cycle 30 miles to help commemorate 30 years of the Protection of Badgers Act. Or maybe hop for 30 minutes... or do 30 badger burpees!

    • How about a badger craft sale or a dress-up in black and white at work (prize for anyone in a badger suit!)?

    • Maybe you can go badgery and have a dawn or dusk walk or a sponsored sleep out?

  • Think about what type of event you’d like to do, when you’ll do it and where. Will you need lots of preparation time? Will you need to give people notice to attend?

  • Remember to consider what equipment you might need for your fundraiser, the venue and – if it’s outside – the weather!

  • Set yourself a target. Aim high and if you’re getting close, aim higher!

  • Create an online donation page at Just Giving. Online donations will be paid directly to
Badger Trust and donors have the option to gift aid too. You can use the form in your fundraising pack to collect off-line donations.

  • Shout about your event!

    • Set up an events page on social media, then ask your friends, family and followers to share your fundraiser on their social media channels.

    • Use the poster in your fundraising pack to advertise your event and put it up at school/work and tell everyone you know about your event!

    • Contact your local newspaper or radio station who might be interested in covering your fundraiser.

  • It’s better in a clan!

    • Fundraising is lots more fun when there’s a few of you involved, so encourage friends, family and colleagues to join you.

    • Contact your local badger group to get them involved – find your nearest badger group online.

  • Don’t forget to thank everyone who supports you. And if they’re interested in finding out more about badgers send them to our website badgertrust.org.uk.

  • And, most importantly FUNdraising should be FUN! So have a great time and tell us how you get on!
