Let’s Honour Badgers this Brocktober
1-31 October

Celebrate Brocktober and National Badger Day 2025

The 6th October brings us National Badger Day, so we join our friends at Scottish Badgers in designating the whole month to #Brocktober. We are celebrating the crucial role badgers play in nature.

"Nature is my happy place" - a sentiment many of us share. But did you know that badgers play a pivotal role in maintaining the natural beauty and balance of our environment? These fascinating creatures help maintain healthy insect populations, disperse seeds, and aerate the soil through their digging activities.

This National Badger Day and beyond, help raise awareness and vital funds. By protecting badgers and their habitats, we ensure that our natural landscapes remain diverse and vibrant.

Keep scrolling to find out how you can get involved and how we can keep nature a happy place for humans and wildlife alike!

Why is National Badger Day held during the Badger Cull?

National Badger Day began long before the badger cull of the past decade. Sadly, we are all too aware that this time of celebration falls during the intensive badger culling period in England as the seemingly endless badger cull continues.

But we won’t let the Government’s senseless slaughter deter us from recognising the beauty and wonder of this amazing native species.

Get social & spread the word

National Badger Day and Brocktober are brilliant opportunities to share our love for badgers and show how we can protect badgers and their habitats.

Using #NBD25#Brocktober #LoveBadgers and #NatureIsMyHappyPlace tags during October, gather together these positive stories.

Spread the word about the beauty and wonder of badgers, our campaigns to protect them, the threats they face, and what we can ALL do to help them.

Watch our short film, ‘State of the Badger’

State of the Badger is our first citizen science project. In this short film, Dr Hannah Trayford, our Campaigns and Research Manager, explains why and how we're doing this study and our hopes for its impact on badger protection.

Plus, our Youth Ambassador, Rachel Bigsby, talks to zoologist Billy Heaney about identifying badger signs and how you can get involved in the study as a Badger Champion volunteer. And you'll see lots of beautiful badgers too!

Messages from our badger friends

Educating the next generation of badger protectors

Our educational film, The Secret Life of Badgers, is packed with real-life footage of badgers and clear, bright infographics. The film is timed to celebrate ‘National Badger Day’, but as every day is Badger Day for our charity, you can use it any time of the year!

This 12-minute film is designed especially for assembly and classroom use for KS1 and KS2 learners and is a great place to start learning about badgers.

The Secret Life of Badgers is broken up into several easy sections and is narrated by Billy Heaney, an enthusiastic zoologist and wildlife presenter. It's suitable for KS2 as a standalone 'plug and play' activity, or for KS1 and KS2 as a 'play and pause' interactive assembly.

The following resources include Teacher notes and Pupil worksheets:

KS1 Class exercise for Secret Life of Badgers film

KS2 Badger Fact File for Secret Life of Badgers film
