We continue our legal efforts to stop the badger cull alongside our partners Wild Justice, Born Free, and Eurogroup for Animals.
Despite repeated calls to follow scientific advice, Natural England and Defra persist in allowing supplementary culling, threatening badger populations across England.
Challenging Natural England and Defra
With Wild Justice, we are pursuing legal action against Natural England and Defra for rejecting their own scientific advice to end supplementary culling. This decision undermines evidence that the practice is ineffective and harmful. The next supplementary cull is scheduled to start in June 2025, and we are working tirelessly to prevent it.
The Bern Convention Process
Together with Born Free and Eurogroup for Animals, we are challenging the UK Government through the Bern Convention. The cull poses a significant threat to badgers as a native species, risking local extinction events. We aim to have the issue discussed at an upcoming Convention meeting, where we will push for the UK Government to justify its actions.

Evidence Submitted to the Animal Sentience Committee
In partnership with Born Free and the RSPCA, we have submitted evidence to the UK Animal Sentience Committee. Our focus is the overall badger cull and the use of free shooting, which we argue constitutes unnecessary cruelty towards a protected species.
Most people oppose the badger cull, yet the government won’t listen. Please support our call to End the Cull and Save Badgers.
The time to act is now. Your voice matters, and you can make a significant difference in the fight to protect our wildlife.
