The Badger Trust remains very concerned by the decision of the Government to allow the continuation and possible expansion of the badger cull policy in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Going forward, the Badger Trust will be seeking confirmation from the badger cull licensing agency Natural England, that despite the Covid-19 pandemic, any badger culling operations undertaken in 2020 will be subject to extensive independent monitoring for humaneness and public safety by Natural England field operatives.
Badger Trust will also be seeking confirmation from the Government that wounded badger patrols will be able to continue to operate on public footpaths during the period of badger culling, taking account of social distancing and other Covid-19 public health guidance.
Natural England has confirmed to the Badger Trust that badger vaccination operations can continue from 1 May to 30 November in 2020 under current 4 year vaccination licences. All vaccination teams will need to comply with the latest public health guidance on Covid-19.
